SIM card rental in Japan for travel

Travelling to Japan and need a SIM card to rent for your iPhone? There are only a few options for SIM card rental for tourists in Japan. SIM card rental consists of either a voice only plan (commonly found at Japanese airports) or a data plan.

Softbank offers a data plan for 1650 Yen per day, which quickly adds up on a 2 week trip. An alternative is using a SIM card capped at 1GB for 14-30 days. This is the best cost effective solution for longer trips. The only drawback to the hotspot is the battery usage, but you can rent a second battery pack to extend the battery life.

Option 1: Global Advanced Communications (Rental available at airport for pickup)
